ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES AT DAYCARE

Updated May 3 2021 - RESOLVED
Positive Cases: 1

This letter is to advise you that Toronto Public Health (TPH) has been notified that someone associated with Jackman Community Daycare tested positive for COVID-19 the week of April 26th.

TPH follows-up with the person who tested positive for COVID-19 to find out where they may have gotten the infection and who they may have exposed to the virus. TPH works with the child care licensee to find out who they were in contact with at the child care setting while they were contagious. When a person with COVID-19 is first identified, all students in the same class cohort will likely be told to self-isolate at home. This may change as Toronto Public Health finds out more information through the investigation.  Thankfully, TPH determined that there were no close contacts; as a result our Preschool program has remained open.

TPH has been working with Jackman Community Daycare to review and confirm the important public health practices that we have in place to help prevent COVID-19 spread. They were very impressed with our health and safety procedures. However, because COVID-19 continues to spread in the community we should all be watching for symptoms.

If you or your child has symptoms, the person with symptoms should self-isolate and get tested. If you have any questions, please call the TPH Hotline at 416-338-7600, Monday-Sunday 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM. You can also call Telehealth Ontario 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-866-797-0000.  Please visit our TPH’s website at www.toronto.ca/COVID19 as it is regularly updated with important information about COVID-19, and includes information for parents of school-aged children, which you may find helpful

Update April 20 - Resolved, no additional cases reported

Posted April 6, 2021

Positive Cases: 1

We have just learned that a child who attends Jackman Community Daycare and school has tested positive for Covid-19. This child last attended childcare on Monday, March 29th.

We have closed the impacted daycare room and are in the process of contacting the families of children who were in close contact last Monday.  These children (and their siblings) must self-isolate for 14 days from last Monday and may return on April 13th if they are symptom-free.

Fortunately, the daycare has kept our cohorts small so we are quite hopeful this has been contained. We have also clearly segregated our cohorts and can confirm that there has been no mingling of childcare cohorts.  We also have been implementing enhanced cleaning throughout the pandemic and are confident in our protocols.

All other daycare rooms continue to be open.

The health, safety and well-being of staff and children are our top priority. Should you have any questions, please visit the TPH website for general information. For general questions, please call the TPH COVID-19 Hotline at 416-338-7600, Monday-Sunday 8:30 AM – 8:00 PM, to speak with an agent. If you need immediate assistance, please call Telehealth Ontario 24 hours a day at 1-866-797-0000.

I know this is unsettling news; however, we will get through this one day at a time.
