Why can’t my child keep their epi-pen / inhaler in their backpack?
Your child cannot keep their emergency medication (EpiPen or inhaler) in their backpack, as medication must not be accessible to other children. Parents or guardians can provide written permission for their child to carry their emergency medication on their person. “On their person” means it must be worn or kept directly with the child, not stored in a backpack that is hung with others.
If parents choose not to have their child carry the medication, Jackman educators will store it in the daycare’s emergency backpack. The educator is responsible for holding this bag and ensuring it remains inaccessible to children at all times.
This follows Jackman Community Daycare’s Anaphylaxis and Medication Policy and Ministry of Education guidelines.
